An Outpouring of Generosity for Victims of Deadly Illinois Tornados

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the aftermath of last night’s deadly tornados that killed two as they ripped through northeastern Illinois, citizens are pouring aid in money, food, and water into the area to help those devastated by the onslaught.

Two elderly women Jacklyn Klosa, 69, and Geraldine Schultz, 67, were killed as the tornadoes ripped through Fairdale, Illinois 80 miles west of Chicago near the state’s third largest city, Rockford. The tornado featured winds at 200-milers-per-hour, was a half-mile wide and rated in at an EF4 on the strength scale.

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner declared both Ogle and DeKalb counties as disaster areas and said that the state was “blessed” not to have more people killed.

The city of Fairdale was practically destroyed buty Rochelle was also hard hit.

The tornados hit late Thursday evening, but on the morning after the disaster thousands of Illinois residents got in their cars and made their way to the devastated area to help those in distress.

They brought food, water, blankets and their hard working two hands to help with the recovery.

But if you want to help, too, there is a place set up to take donations.

You can send checks made out to the Fairdale relief fund to:

Alpine Bank
PO Box 6086
Rockford Il
61125-1086

At this point it is probably a better idea to send money instead of trying to visit the area as the locals begin to recover.
