Some State Democrats Abandoning Party, Switching to Republican

-By Warner Todd Huston

Thus far at least four Democrats have already jumped the sinking Democrat ship to become Republicans and in one case it gave the GOP a majority control of a state senate since the 1930s.

The first to jump parties was West Virginia State Senator Daniel Hall. The Wyoming County Senator announced the day after the midterm elections that he was switching his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican because, he said, most of his constituents are Republican and he felt he wasn’t serving their interests as a Democrat.

The WV senate was split 17-17 and Hall’s jump gave the WV GOP control of the state senate for the first time since the 1930s.

West Virginia had another recent GOP switch when Evan Jenkins dumped the Democrat Party to run as a Republican for the state’s 3rd Congressional District–a contest he won last Tuesday.

Jenkins had been a Republican until he switched to the Democrats in 1993 and now he is again a Republican.

Also on Wednesday, Missouri State Representative Linda Black jumped from the Democrats to the GOP saying that she no longer agrees with the stance of the Democrats.

As a Democrat, Black ran unopposed for her state house seat and made her switch the day after the elections. Her switch gives the MO state GOP 118 seats, its largest majority ever in Show Me State history.

“It’s been a joke around the capitol with Republicans for quite a while that I needed to go ahead and join their party because I was already voting with them on so many issues,” Black said during her announcement.

This is probably just the beginning, too. As the weeks drag on, there will likely be a few more to make the switch.

I have to say, Obama has been a total disaster for this nation. But I have finally realized that I like at least one thing he’s done. He sure has been a great success at destroying the careers of Democrats and putting the Democrat Party into the minority, not just in Washington, but all across the country. So, he’s got that going for him. Which is nice.
