A new report shows that a man who has become celebrated by National Public Radio and others for his reporting during the recent unrest in Ferguson, Missouri also has a record as a child molester.
Mustafa Hussein is a Muslim convert and a volunteer reporter for ArgusNews, a Saint Louis-based activist website that has lately dedicated itself almost wholly to reporting on the Ferguson riots.
Hussein reportedly received 1.3 million views of his coverage in just one night earlier this year.
For his energetic reportage of the situation in Ferguson, Hussein has earned fawning coverage by such media outlets as the Huffington Post, taxpayer supported NPR, the Washington Post, MSNBC, Bloomberg, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
He has been celebrated as a “new” kind of reporter and hailed for his bravery in face of police harassment as he covered the rioting.
In fact, the ACLU is also taking up his case against the Ferguson police for an incident that brought him much of his national coverage.
But a new report finds that Mustafa Hussein is not this celebrated reporter’s original name. His given name was Theodore R. Barrett and under his original name he earned a record as a child molester.
Hussein/Barrett was arrested in the year 2000 for “indecent contact with a child” in Clarinda, Iowa.
According to the records found by Charles C. Johnson, as Ted Barrett, Hussein was arrested and accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl.
