RACIST! NAACP Race-Pushers Next Group to Attack ‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Phil Robertson

-By Warner Todd Huston

Phil Robertson of TV’s Duck Dynasty is a racist! So says the race-pushing group the NCAAP. The long-time race group is only the latest extremist, left-wing organization to come out and condemn the patriarch of the TV reality show clan.

The NAACP teamed up with Human Rights Campaign and issued a letter that essentially lied right in its very first paragraph saying that Robertson said that blacks were “happier under Jim Crow laws” and equated “being gay with bestiality and promiscuity.” The FACT is he did no such thing. (Download a .pdf of the NCAAP letter HERE)

Firstly, Robertson did say that in his experience blacks in pre-civil rights Louisiana whom he knew were happy. As “white trash” he said he worked side-by-side in the fields with them. But he did not also say that African Americans were happier under Jim Crow laws. This is a fiction–meaning they LIED, to you in Rio Linda–and these racebaiters made it up out of whole cloth.

Secondly, Robertson also did not “equate” homosexuality to bestiality and promiscuity. He did place the act of homosexuality on a list with other things that are sins as listed in the Bible.

But placing something among other things is not “equating” or comparing them.

For instance, if someone says that a list of crimes includes murder and petty theft, no one in the world would say that petty theft and murder are somehow the same thing. But they are both crimes. Only someone who is either not smart enough to understand the definition of words, or someone purposefully trying to mislead people would claim that Robertson said that homosexuality and bestiality are one and the same thing.

In the letter the two racebaiting groups demanded that the A&E network condemn Robertson’s comments. Obviously they already did, but whatever.

So, for a full context, here is what Robertson said of blacks:

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’–not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Note that Robertson was talking of his life experiences. He was not talking about all blacks. Only the ones he knew.

So, the NAACP is lying when they say Robertson was saying that all blacks were “happier under Jim Crow laws.” It just isn’t what he said.

It is perhaps likely that Robertson didn’t know his black neighbors well enough to know if they were unconcerned about Jim Crow and what he said is certainly not the most flattering thing to say. He probably shouldn’t have said it. But the NAACP’s claim of what he said is simply incorrect… and purposefully so.

In any case, the left is really trying to make hay over this faux controversy. The contretemps roll onward.
