Gay groups don’t care about gay slurs. They care about liberalism. So, when a liberal utters a gay slur it is brushed off as unimportant. But if a conservative seems to say something bad about gays, why, it is the end of the world. That is the case here with the recent condemnation that the gay group GLAAD doled out to Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson.
The gay group GLAAD came out to excoriate Phil Robertson of A&E’s reality TV hit Duck Dynasty for his comments about gays in a hostile interview in the upcoming issue of GQ magazine.
As soon as the interview became public knowledge, GLAAD ran to Entertainment Weekly which posted the complaint in a piece with the lie-filled title, “‘Duck Dynasty’ star makes anti-gay comments; GLAAD slams.”
In the interview Robertson laid out the typical, Christian, Bible-based ideas about homosexuality and in fact just paraphrased Corinthians in his comments that homosexuality is wrong but that he still loves gays as human beings.
Before we get to GLAAD’s complaint, here is what Robertson said in the GQ interview:
“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Robertson then paraphrased Corinthians from the Bible: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers–they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
And if that wasn’t explicit enough, the “Duck Commander” added: “It seems like, to me, a vagina–as a man–would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Of course, the left is going nuts over the comments ignoring that Robertson wasn’t being “anti-gay” but anti-sin. After all, he included heterosexual sin in there by bringing the Bible into it.
Unsurprisingly GLAAD immediately sent out a press release attacking Robertson for the comments.
Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” said spokesperson Wilson Cruz. “He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans–and Americans – who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.
For his part, Robertson also issued a press release clarifying what he said in the interview:
A&E released this statement from Phil Robertson addressing the controversy: “I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.” Beyond that, A&E had no comment.
So, what does this all have to do with my own title mentioning Alec Baldwin?
Well, Baldwin has been using gay slurs for years and only just last month he lost his own MSNBC show for yet another gay slur.
Has GLAAD excoriated Baldwin.
Not much at all.
In fact, GLAAD allowed Baldwin to use its own website to issue another one of his false apologies.
You see, Baldwin is a lefty TV star. So, he gets a pass.
Like all these grievance merchants, GLAAD only cares about leftism, not the issue they claim to be in business for.
Well, am I right? Are they hypocrites?
Now the A&E network has suspended Robertson for his comments.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the network isn’t going to let Robertson off with a mere slap on the wrist for his comments.
The network issued a press release saying:
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
Clearly A&E thinks it can dump Phil without affecting the rest of the show.
Does anyone want to guess what the rest of the family will do? Doesn’t it seem likely that the rest of the Robertson clan will rally around Phil and all quit the show in support?
I would not doubt it if they all quit. After all, they are all millionaires already and don’t need A&E. Further, you can be sure some other cable network will snap them up in a minute if they leave the network.
We’ll just have to see where all this goes, eh?
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has also released a statement:
“Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”
