Hillary to Retire to Writing, Speech Making

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has been much speculation about what retiring Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will do with her time after she leaves the State Dept. Some imagine she’ll run for president, but Hillary herself is now saying she’ll just retire to activism, writing, and speech making.

In a recent interview, Clinton claims that she has “absolutely no plans to run” for president in 2016 and promises that she is “out of politics right now.”

Clinton said she planned to focus on speaking, writing and working on issues to benefit women and girls. But when pressed about why President Obama hasn’t appointed more women to his cabinet, Clinton waved off criticism saying, “What we have to do is take a look at the broad picture.”

The former Secretary of State also said she may join her husband’s work at the Clinton Global Initiative.

But as to a run for president in 2016, Clinton seemed to say she wasn’t on that track.

Then again, Clinton has a long history of claiming she isn’t interested in running for President even though it later became clear she was.

In 2000 when she was first running for the Senate seat from New York, she told everyone she had no interest in running for president.

Later, during her run for re-election to the Senate she said she was only interested in serving her second term not in running for the White House. It wasn’t long before she was running for president anyway.

Finally, after her humiliating primary defeat at the hands of Barack Obama in 2009, Clinton again demurred from a run for the White House, saying there was “probably close to zero” chance she’d ever run for president again.

Only time will tell what 2016 will hold for Hillary Clinton.
