Occasionally it is interesting to check out the Twitter feeds of employees of the Old Media establishment to see what sort of things they like to banter about on social media. Invariably, it seems, when we do this we find that the member of the media in question isn’t as non-partisan as they pretend to be in their work. Such is the case with Larry Shaughnessy, a producer at CNN’s Washington bureau covering the Dept. of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
A look over Mr. Shaughnessy’s recent Tweets reveals a man that hates Mitt Romney, hates former Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and loves him some Obama.
Worse, for a man whose job is to report on veterans, he also slammed famed military school, the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), as just a bunch of kids “playing dress up.” No respect at all for these young people, most of whom go on to serve our country.
Of VMI, Shaughnessy said, “VMI ain’t a military instution [sic]. Its a school where the kids play dress up. They are no more required to serve than Yale grads”
He also hates Mitt Romney. On August 30, for instance, he childishly attacked Mitt Romney for his makeup at a recent appearance saying, “Bad makeup on Mitt. He looks sad. And his speaking tone seems to match it.”
Shaughnessy also plied the left-wing trope that Romney wants to cut taxes for the rich, a charge that is clearly false if you look at his announced tax plan. “If Mitt wins, I may have to get a second job handing out McSandwiches so I can pay for his tax break for millionaires,” he writes.
The CNN flunky then went on to slam a fellow Tweeter that said that it was good that Romney had business acumen. “G. W. Bush had biz experience. Nixon had biz experience. Look what they did to the country. Gov’t’s goal is not a profit. It’s service,” he Tweeted.
Mr. Shaughnessy is also a great hater of Bush era Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and attacked him several times on his feed.
In one case, after another Tweeter mentioned that Rummy praised the White House Press Corps, Shaughnessy couldn’t even accept the compliment saying, “Rumsfeld wwas [sic] just blowing smoke in an upward direction.”
Shaughnessy’s also obviously not fond of fellow member of the media, Tucker Carlson: “Tucker? [have] shame? Mr. Cirincione, I think you know the answer to that question.”
But, naturally, he loves his Obammessiah: “http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/best-of-friday-facts-keeping-college-affordable … Thanks Mr. President for helping families put their kids through college.”
Not only that, but Shaughnessy was doing his part along with the rest of the Old Media establishment to quell any talk about Obama’s murderous foreign policy failures in Libya. He was quick to scold another Tweeter that any talk about Benghazi was “politicizing” the crisis.
“So your are making political hay from the deaths of 4 Americans who were serving their country. That’s so Issa of you,” he said.
So, yes, what we have here is yet another disinterested, moderate, middle-of-the-road, non-partisan denizen of CNN right out there for everyone to see. No wonder CNN’s ratings have cratered.
