Incognito? Reporters Using Fake Names to Buy Obama Merchandise

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like some members of the Old Media establishment have resorted to using false names in order to buy Obama campaign merchandise inside the friendly confines of the media-only areas of the Democrat National convention this week.

Hunter Walker reported about an Obama/Democrat Party souvenir stand that sat inside an area to which only convention goers with media credentials had access and when asked about her take for the night the stand’s minder revealed a startling subterfuge.

Before the amazing revelation, the souvenir seller asked Obeserver.com’s reporter if he wanted any Obama merch but he reminded her that buying campaign stuff amounts to a donation to the campaign and, well, he was a reporter and it just wouldn’t be kosher to do that.

But the peddler had a solution to that little dilemma.

“Have you ever thought of making up a fake name? That’s what the other guys do,” she said.

Now, as Hunter notes, even Obama’s own website warns shoppers that any Obama merchandise bought is essentially a donation to the Obama campaign.

“The only way to receive items from the 2012 store is by contributing through the official store site at store.barackobama.com,” the site says.

Apparently, understanding full well that they are donating directly to Obama’s re-election campaign, members of the media at the Democrat convention have tried to hide their donations by pretending to be someone else?

Seems more like they are fooling themselves than fooling anyone else.
