AFP, Defending the American Dream: Combating Progressives Practices Panel

-By Warner Todd Huston

This week I am in Washington D.C. at the Defending the American Dream Summit, an annual event hosted by Americans For Prosperity. This is always a great event held in the nation’s capitol with lots of great speakers and breakout panels, mostly for the edification of members of AFP.

The breakout panel I chose this morning was one titled Progressive Practices: Exposing and Combating the Left’s Tactics. The panelists were three of the best people you can put on such a panel. Wall Street Journal writer John Fund, famous for his knowledge and reportage on vote fraud. Anita MonCrief, famous for once being a member of the notorious group ACORN and later a whistleblower on its fraud, and videographer and investigative journalist (or guerilla journalist as some may say) James O’Keefe, famous for really being a pain in the left’s reared.

The intention of the panel was to help members of Americans For Prosperity to come to better understand the tactics of the left so that they know how to fight them back home, but the focus was most especially about vote fraud since each of the three panel members specialized in that area.

Fund was the most exercised about all this because he just finished his latest book titled Who’s Counting?: How Fraudsters and Bureaucrats Put Your Vote at Risk. One of his earlier books was also about vote fraud.

Early in the panel Mr. Fund reminded us that Ronald Reagan told us that the argument wasn’t necessarily left vs right.

You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream–the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism.

Fund gave us his updated paraphrase of Reagan’s concept. “This is not a left-right debates,” he said, this fight with the left “is between logic and insanity.”

Fund went on to inform those present that Obama was one of the architects of the left’s vote machine because he was one of the lawyers involved in getting Motor Voter passed, a law that Fund says is the template for Democrat voter fraud.

Fund said that the best example of the sort of vote fraud that the left wants to perpetrate everywhere was the lawless election in Minnesota in 2008 when Al Franken employed vote fraud in order to beat Norm Coleman.

Since the 2008 election from which Franken became Senator by a 312 vote margin, there have been 177 convictions of vote fraud in that election and more cases are still pending. Investigators found that some 12,000 felons illegally voted in that election with the preponderance of those illegal votes going to Franken.

Fund urged everyone to support voter ID laws and to join the effort to become poll watchers and poll workers to help stop vote fraud.

ACORN Whistleblower Anita MonCrief

Anita MonCrief chimed in that the race card is all the left has to defeat voter ID laws. “Who doesn’t want free and fair elections,” she asked. But what keeps blacks from supporting vita ID laws is that the left tells them that the reason for them is to “prevent you being allowed to vote” even thought that is simply a lie.

James O’Keefe was asked what the problem is with the right’s response to all this and he said that the biggest problem on the right is “people don’t have enough balls.” The left, he said, lies all day long and the right is too afraid to confront them.

But Fund noted that the idea of voter ID is more popular with minorities than we might think. Two thirds of blacks and Hispanics, Fund said, support voter ID laws.

Still, Fund says, Anita was right to note the racism component. Too many minorities think anti-vote fraud drives are all about racism because of the lies they hear from the left.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that the right is racist for wanting voter ID laws,” Fund said. “What is racist is allowing big city Democrat machines to crush the will of minority voters” by giving them no choices and forcing such fraud on every election.

The panel was a very good one, for sure.
