If You Watch Fox News, Obama Says You’re ‘Stubborn’

-By Warner Todd Huston

More from President Obama, the most negative campaigner in recent presidential campaign history. This time Obama is name calling Fox News fans, saying they are “stubborn” for having the temerity to frequent the most watched cable news station on the air.

At a campaign stop in Virginia on July 6, Obama thought it would be funny to take a shot at Fox News.

So, just in case some of your friends or neighbors, you know, uncle Jim who’s a little stubborn and been watching Fox News. Well, he thinks that somehow I raised taxes, let’s just be clear, we’ve lowered taxes for middle class families since I came into office.

The President has been touring the country claiming that the end of the Bush tax cuts will cause the government to “spend nearly a $1 trillion more” in tax cuts for the “wealthiest 2 percent of Americans.” Even factcheck.org says that this is a gross exaggeration.

Obama is cruising the country calling Americans names for watching Fox News and pushing the idea of raising taxes on “the rich” saying it’s about “fairness.” But as NRO’s Michael Tanner notes, there isn’t much “fair” about it.

The president’s argument that this tax hike is about fairness is also more than a bit specious. Wealthy Americans already pay a disproportionate share of federal income taxes. The top 1 percent earn 16 percent of all income in the United States, but pay 36.7 percent of all federal income taxes. In fact, the 400 richest Americans together pay nearly as much in federal income taxes as do the 50 percent of taxpayers at the low end of the scale.

Thomas Sowell is even harsher with his pronunciation of what Obama is doing. Sowell says flat out that Obama is “lying” about his tax policy ideas.

But this is just another example of Obama being the “most divisive, nasty, negative campaigner this country’s ever seen.”
