Republicans of Wheeling Township Saturday endorsed Dr. Arie Friedman for the 29th State Senate District.

“Our organization has known Dr. Friedman for the past two years,” said Wheeling GOP Committeeman Ruth O’Connell of Arlington Heights. “We appreciate his leadership toward reforming the state’s Medicaid program, protecting us from the costs and burdens of the new national health care system, and repealing the recent state income tax.

“Arie is a friend of our organization, and we wanted – at our first meeting of the 2012 campaign season – to declare that he is our candidate for this important seat in the General Assembly,” O’Connell said.

“I am grateful to have won the backing of this key organization in the southwest end of my district,” said Friedman. “It’s a great way to start our campaign to represent the people of the 29th District, and I look forward to a close working relationship with Ruth O’Connell and the Republicans in Wheeling Township.

“Illinois is going in the wrong direction on taxes, spending and fiscal management,” said Friedman. “We have to stop the hemorrhaging of population and jobs from our state, and the only way to do that is to try a new prescription – common-sense adults stepping forward from the private sector to straighten out the mess.

“That is why I am running,” said Friedman. “The people of Illinois urgently need to make a change, and my candidacy offers the voters of the 29th Senate District an opportunity to change Springfield.”

Dr Arie Friedman and his wife, Michelle, are the parents of five children. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago and finished at the top of his medical school class at the University of Illinois Medical Center in 1998. He opened a pediatric medicine practice in Lake County in 2001. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Friedman served in the United States Navy as a helicopter pilot. During his seven years of active duty, Dr. Friedman flew SH-60B Seahawk helicopters out of Naval Air Station North Island, California, from which he deployed twice, including once to the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Desert Storm.
