From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R, IL, 11th District)…
Washington, DC – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-11) issued the following statement on the agreement to fund the federal government through the remainder of fiscal year 2011 while cutting $78.5 billion below the President’s 2011 budget proposal.
“Our country has come a long way since the President asked Congress two and a half months ago for a spending freeze, which translates to no spending cuts. In just a matter of months, we negotiated historic cuts of $38.5 billion through the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year.
“Although Republicans in Congress only control one-half of one-third of government, we were able to get the largest spending cuts in the history of our county. This represents just the beginning steps toward getting our spending under control. Now is the time to do what we were sent here to do– not what’s easy to do.
“We must now turn our focus on a 2012 fiscal year budget that will create a future full of opportunity, rather than a future full of debt, doubt and despair.
“The work to get our fiscal House in order has only begun. Both parties must continue to have fact-based, commonsense conversations about cutting spending and restoring fiscal accountability for our children and grandchildren.”
