From the Illinois Policy Institute…
You may have joined us earlier this month for our Election Night Party when we watched and celebrated as free market proponents took control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, what’s in store for Illinois in 2011? I hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, December 8, for our annual holiday party to find out. Come kick off the holiday season and hear from Congressman Peter Roskam, who will share insight on how developments in Washington will affect you next year.
You can RSVP here. The holiday party sold out last year, so reserve your spot now—I hope to see you there! In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving!

The Real Stories
Last week’s video was a lighthearted take on a business’s perspective facing uncertain regulations and taxation in the near future. This week’s video is a real story from a real person. Hear her story on how the heavy hand of government is making it difficult to pursue her passion.
Chicago Mayoral Debate
The Illinois Policy Institute is partnering with a few other organizations to sponsor a debate for the Chicago mayoral candidates, which focuses explicitly on education policy. The debate is on December 15, and more information can be found on our website. Registration opens November 28, so don’t forget about it!
The Amazon Tax
Illinois legislators are currently toying with the idea of slapping a tax on purchases made online. An “Amazon.com” tax would do little to improve Illinois’s revenue situation, but would put a damper on holiday shopping.
Keeping Tabs on Springfield
Institute staff had a prolific week providing video updates from Springfield during last week’s veto session. See our updates on possibly losing the right to see public employee performance reviews, pension borrowing, the Sunshine Commission, and a final wrap-up on the veto session.
Does the IRS Owe You Money?
The IRS is holding onto more than $4 million in undeliverable income tax refunds for Illinois residents. If you didn’t receive your refund, check this database from the National Taxpayers Union.
Happy Thanksgiving
At the Illinois Policy Institute, we never take your support for granted. Thank you very much for all the support you’ve given us in the past, and we thank you for helping us advance free market principles in our great state for years to come.
