Roskam Seeks Increased Transparency in the House‏

From the office of Congressman Peter Roskam (R, ILL)…

As you may know, House Republicans recently rolled out a series of innovative tools for Americans to interact with their government and provide feedback on the issues facing our country today. These efforts, AmericaSpeakingOut.com and YouCut, are examples of the type of transparent and responsive leadership House Republicans will provide if we take back the majority in November.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on the forefront of this effort as the Vice Chairman and Job Creation Policy Director for AmericaSpeakingOut.com. Recently, House Republican Leader John Boehner, Rep. Aaron Schock, and I met with several organizations representing a range of businesses nationwide, organizations like the National Association of Manufacturers and National Federation of Independent Businesses. The purpose of this meeting was to hear suggestions directly from businesses responsible for creating jobs, generating growth, and restoring our economy to prosperity.

Although this meeting was incredibly insightful in terms of the content discussed, it was also groundbreaking in our use of technology to improve the transparency of our discussion – the entire meeting streamed live over the internet and can now be viewed in it’s entirety on the AmericaSpeakingOut News Page.

Initiatives like these remind me why reclaiming the House of Representatives in November is so critical to America’s future – Republicans are engaging the public in new and easily accessible ways in the hopes of increasing the level of direct participation in government. You see, I believe that our prosperity as a nation is driven by people that live and work and serve across this country, not by a massive, unresponsive, and outdated government in Washington.

Nancy Pelosi and the liberal Democrats simply aren’t interested in what the American people have to say. If they were, we would not be preparing for a massive government takeover of health care, reeling from outrageous increases in our national debt, and hamstrung by uncertainty in the marketplace.

Technology is changing our world by providing new methods of communication and interaction – shouldn’t your government keep up and use these tools to increase transparency and raise the level of political discussion? Sincerely,
Peter J. Roskam
Member of Congress

P.S. Increasing transparency in Washington through the use of technology is critical to allowing every American the opportunity to interact with their government. Our government will only serve its people effectively when it starts listening to them. Check out AmericaSpeakingOut.com and YouCut to find out how you can get involved.
