Calumet Park, Illinois is straight south of Chicago nearing the Indiana border. Illinoisans of the area call it Cal Park for short. Unfortunately, it seems to have earned a new nickname thanks to the lies over his military record told by its mayor, Joseph DuPar. Its new name should be Bull Park.
Easily fitting in with other serial military service liars such as Massachusetts District Attorney candidate Richard Blumenthal, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, Mr. John “did you know I served in Vietnam” Kerry, and even fellow Illinoisans Phil Hare and Mark Kirk, Mayor DuPar made a pretty outrageous claim on his bio during his recently successful election campaign.
As Mark Seavey of BigPeace.com reports, DuPar claimed that “as a Sergeant in the military, I received the Medal of Honor with (4) Bronze Stars for my Leadership” during his Vietnam service.”
This, however, is an outright lie. Mayor DuPar neither won the Medal of Honor nor did he receive four Bronze Stars. Mayor DuPar did receive a Vietnam Service medal with four bronze service stars, but he did not earn the higher awards noted in his campaign information even as he was discharged honorably.
The fact is the the words that DuPar chose to use to define his service award makes of him a liar.
It’s bad enough that DuPar purposefully used misleading words to describe his military awards, but he’s also accused his former opponent, Abe Wilson, of being the one in the wrong for pointing out DuPar’s calumny. And on top of that, DuPar is outrageously dragging Wilson to court over it all.
In a filing in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Ill., DuPar claims that his suit rests on Wilson’s duty “to refrain from intentionally and with actual malice publishing and distributing statements with knowledge that they were false and/or with reckless disregard of whether they were false or not.”
So the liar is forcing the truth teller to use his own money to defend his truth telling in court?
This is the sort of lawsuit that should be immediately thrown out and should result in the liar (that would be DuPar) paying ALL court costs and fees not to mention the innocent’s fees.
In any case, mark Mayor Joseph DuPar as yet another veteran who feels he has to lie about his service record in order to get elected. It is disgusting, isn’t it?
