Ill. Policy Institute: Can we turn Illinois around?‏

A New Jersey Twist
“The best reality show on television today isn’t running on MTV,” William McGurn wrote in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal. It’s in the New Jersey state capitol, where Gov. Chris Christie is leading a dramatic campaign to make the state government live within its means. You can watch Gov. Christie discuss his dramatic attempt to turn New Jersey around here.

Standing Up for Small Businesses: Hair Braiders
“Oumou Wague learned to braid hair in her native Senegal by watching her aunts and mother,” Chicago Public Radio reported earlier this week. “Today, she owns a shop on South Halsted.” According to state law, hair braiders, who often struggle to make ends meet, “must have a full cosmetology license. That could cost about $10,000 and includes 1,500 hours of training.” You can read Kristina Rasmussen’s testimony on an important upcoming vote to loosen these restrictions—and create more jobs for hair braiders–here.
