Institute Releases Piglet Book
When the state government is flat broke, should it be funding fishing demonstrations? How about car racing, folk dancing, or a Batman-themed gala? This week, the Illinois Policy Institute released its 2010 Piglet Book, highlighting $350 million in questionable state spending. Access the full report here, or watch John Tillman dish out the porky details on Fox News Chicago by clicking the video above.
A Revolution in the Making?
Last week, the Institute hosted a sold-out event featuring state senator Reverend James Meeks, who has introduced a potentially transformational bill for school vouchers in Illinois. In case you missed Rev. Meeks’s fantastic speech, we’ve got the highlights online, along with photos of the event.
Your Personal Pork Fighting Kit
With all of the news of wasteful spending—our Piglet Book was covered by the Chicago Tribune, the St Louis Post-Dispatch, and television stations around the state—what can individuals do to encourage responsible, accountable government? In her latest Examiner column, Kate Piercy gives the skinny on the best tools to tackle the state’s bloated budget. Read more here.
In Case You Missed It…
John Tillman was recently on Jeff Berkowitz’s “Public Affairs” program, discussing transparency in Illinois, school vouchers, and how the state’s deficit is not really as bad as many politicians in Springfield will have you believe—it’s small enough to solve by reeling in spending, rather than raising taxes. Watch the interview here.
