8th District: Joe Walsh on State of the Union Speech

From the Joe Walsh for Congress campaign…

Tonight, as required by our Constitution, President Obama gave the annual State of the Union Address to both houses of Congress.

The President and I agree on some of his ideas, and disagree on others. Firstly, I must applaud the President when he said “I do not accept second place for the United States of America.” Further I completely agree with the President that we the voters should “Give our people the government they deserve.” You, the voters of the 8th deserve so much more than Melissa Bean. You deserve a voice!

While Obama would likely not support me, our people deserve someone who will fight for them and not champion the blame game or half truths.

Tonight Obama prided himself on “not raising your taxes a single dime” which is a calculated half-truth as Obama has shattered the first year spending record of any President to the tune of over 3.52 trillion dollars of your money. Thanks to Democratic ideologue reckless spending, the only component of our economy that has grown this past year is the size of the government.

I refuse to accept the continued Bush bashing as a reasonable or even logical excuse as to why 1 out of every 10 Americans is out of work. The last time Obama addressed Congress, he pledged that his stimulus package must be passed or the unemployment rate would soar to 8%.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports that the unemployment rate in Illinois in December, 2009 was 11.9%. This 11.9% unemployment rate occurred with Obama enjoying the largest Democratic majority in Congress in modern history, and with Melissa Bean voting lock-step to spend your money with the Pelosi-Obama agenda!

Under the Bean-Pelosi-Obama regime, the United States of America lost 3 million jobs this past year.

Newly elected Virginia Governor Bob McDonald, in the Republican response tonight stated that we must “reconsider and restore the proper role of government on every level.” I ask you to help me be your voice in Washington to reconsider and restore our nation. Throwing trillions of dollars at our woes is not only foolish, it is bad government.

My political hero Ronald Reagan said it best: “Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is our problem.” Over the course of this primary campaign, I originally thought I was a lone voice feeling like he was losing his country. At every event, through every phone call, and with each person that has honored me with a moment of their time to share a story, thought, or ideal, I have found that we are not alone at all; we are truly united and together, and we can take back what is ours.

I am asking for your vote and support in this election. I pledge now and forever to always listen to the voices of the voters and will not waiver in our continued pursuit of excellence and the American dream.

Joe Walsh is the Republican candidate who can unseat Melissa Bean in 2010 for the Illinois 8th Congressional District. Born and raised in North Barrington, a policy maker, government educator, and business entrepreneur, Joe has spent his adult life advancing limited-government and conservative principles.
