U.S. Senate: Arrington Defends Educational Choice

From the John Arrington for Senate campaign…

John Arrington, Republican candidate for US Senate (IL), supports the rights of parents to make educational choices for their children, be it through public, private, charter, or home schools. With a varied background that includes private and public school teaching and Illinois certification in educational administration with a superintendent of schools certification, John Arrington has a unique perspective among the senatorial candidates. He deems the choice of educational venue to be the right of parents—the first and foremost educators of their children.

This is a right not to be infringed upon by Big Government, Arrington asserts. “We must not allow ourselves as a country to go down the road of Nazi Germany, who passed a compulsory education law that to this day threatens the rights and freedoms of its citizens. In Germany it is illegal to homeschool, with parents facing stiff fines, jail time, and even loss of their children, for taking responsibility for their children’s education as God intended. When federal governments overstep its limited Constitutional powers, telling the states what they must and must not do to educate our children, we must be thankful yet vigilant about educating our children.”

Arrington and his wife Joy home schooled last year, currently have two children in private Christian school and two in public school. Arrington believes all parents should have unrestricted options to educate their children, public, private, or at home. John Arrington cites a case where a German family is seeking political asylum here in the US after suffering persecution in Germany for having homeschooled their children.

According to the Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), the Romeikes, after paying thousands in crippling fines and being threatened with jail time, had their children seized in 2006 and placed in the local state-run school.

Their asylum case will be heard on Tuesday, January 26 in Tennessee by a federal immigration judge. It will be a landmark ruling. Please spread this email to all home school supporters to be vigilant in prayer for the Romeikes that they would receive asylum and like us, be able to educated their children at home without restrictions. If elected as senator, John Arrington will work to ensure that in the United States of America, parents’ rights are respected, that educational decisions are returned to local levels of government, and that children’s God-given gifts will be developed to the fullest extent.
