5th Districtt: Chicago Sun-Times Rebuffs Conservative “Firebrand” Candidate Ratowitz

From the David Ratowitz for Congress campaign…

“I embrace the conservative banner,” Ratowitz retorts. “The people are calling for substantial reform; moderation will only bring us more of the same.”

CHICAGO – January 19, 2010 – U.S. House candidate David Ratowitz has released the following statement in response to the Chicago Sun-Times endorsement of his Illinois District 5 opponent Ashvin Lad.

“Today of all days, with its high-profile Senate contest in Massachusetts tipped in favor of the limited-government Republican, it is highly ironic that the Chicago Sun-Times would choose ‘moderate’ Ashvin Lad as a ‘best bet’ in any race. That ‘firebrand’ Republican reformer Tony Peraica enthusiastically endorsed my campaign, along with Tax Accountability (NTUI), will resonate with voters seeking an absolute end to all federal bailouts and stimulus schemes that are being foisted upon the public quite obviously to enrich special interests.

“Our federal budget is at its breaking point, employment numbers are stagnant and economic forecasts are bleak.” Ratowitz continued. “I embrace the conservative banner. The people are calling for substantial reform; moderation will only bring us more of the same.”

From the Sun-Times:

“We endorse Ashvin Lad, a pro-business, anti-tax, Indian-American moderate, over his more conservative main opponent, David Ratowitz. Lad is the candidate of party regulars, while Ratowitz is favored more by GOP firebrands, such as Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica. Lad is the GOP’s best bet against incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley in the fall general election in this heavily Democratic district.”

Entrepreneur, Army veteran and conservative activist David Ratowitz is running for the 5th Congressional District Republican nomination in the February 2 Illinois Primary Election. Endorsements for Ratowitz include Tax Accountability, the political action arm of National Taxpayers United of Illinois; Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica; Republican Liberty Caucus; LibertySlate 2010; 32nd Ward GOP Committeeman John Curry; and North Town News Magazine and Jewish Chicago. The Ratowitz for Congress campaign platform supports a limited federal government, low taxes, fiscal discipline and accountability, free markets and individual liberty.
