Brady Announces 14 GOP Legislators Endorsing Him for Governor

-By Warner Todd Huston

Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady (R, Bloomington) announced at a campaign stop at the Willard Airport in Savoy, Illinois that he has the support of 14 out of 70 Republican members of the Legislature.

Brady is also calling for a 10 percent across the board cut in the state’s budget.

“I have called for a 10 percent cut across the board in every area of state government. We’ve got to rein in government spending.”

The 14 Legislators that have endorsed Brady are as follows:

  • Senator Tim Bivins, Dixon
  • Assistant Senate Republican Leader Brad Burzynski, Clare
  • Assistant Senate Republican Leader John O. Jones, Mt Vernon
  • Assistant Senate Republican Leader David Luechtefeld, Okawville
  • Senator Dale Risinger, Peoria
  • Representative Mike Bost, Murphysboro
  • Representative John Cavaletto, Salem
  • Representative Shane Cultra, Onarga
  • Representative Bill Mitchell, Forysth
  • Representative Donald Moffitt, Gilson
  • Representative Rich Myers, Colchester
  • Representative David Reis, Willow Hill
  • Representative Keith Sommer, Morton
  • Assistant House Republican Leader Ron Stephens, Greenville

(List found here)

Brady also picked up some more endorsements during a stop in Tazwell County. There he received the endorsements of:

  • Assistant Senate Republican Leader Brad Burzynski of Clare, Illinois
  • Assistant Senate Republican Leader John O. Jones of Mt. Vernon, Illinois
  • State Representative Shane Cultra of Onarga, Illinois
  • State Representative David Reis of Willow Hill, Illinois
  • State Representative Keith Sommer of Morton, Illinois
  • City of Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis
  • Tazewell County Board Member Jan Donahue of Pekin, Illinois
  • Tazewell County Board Member Mel “Dutch” Stanford of Mackinaw, Illinois
  • Tazewell County Board Member John C. Ackerman of Washington, Illinois

With so many candidates for Governor from the Chicago area, and with Brady being the only “downstater,” this is a chance for Brady to pick up endorsements of everything outside the collar counties around Chicago. It could be him best chance to snap up the nomination.
