8th District: Joe Walsh Pans Obama’s Afghanistan Policy Speech

From the Joe Walsh campaign:

8th District GOP Congressional Candidate Supports More Troops

Lake Zurich, IL – Joe Walsh, Republican candidate for the GOP nomination for the 8th District Congressional seat currently held by Rep. Melissa Bean has issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech on Afghanistan policy tonight:

According to Mr. Walsh:

“First and foremost, I support the President’s decision to send more troops to Afghanistan to secure the country, defeat the Taliban, and prevent the reestablishment of an Al-Qaeda sanctuary. While I hope that this strategy is the right one, I’m concerned that the President’s actions may have been determined more to appease his left-wing base rather than to address the facts on the ground. Specifically, I think his preoccupation with ending our engagement there sends a terrible signal to our allies, the Afghan people, and our enemies alike. While I’m opposed to an unending, open-ended commitment, I would have felt much more confident in his strategy if he had stressed our ultimate success rather than our eventual withdrawal.”

Joe Walsh is a staunch supporter of our military and believes that a strong national defense is the first responsibility of the federal government. While backing our efforts in Afghanistan and in strengthening our military in general, Mr. Walsh’s principle campaign focus is in limiting the size, scope, and growth of the government in Washington.

More specifically, he has HAD ENOUGH of the higher taxes, skyrocketing spending, and expanding government supported by Melissa Bean. He believes that Washington is taking us in the wrong direction and is running for office to restore fiscal sanity and fight for smaller government.
