Illinois Lawmaker Gets ‘Tax Villain’ Award

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois Senator James Clayborne wants to raise the Illinois State Income tax a whopping 67 percent on the citizenry and 33 percent on businesses. It amounts to thievery by the state and has earned Clayborne the title of “Tax Villain” for the month of October from the watchdog group National Taxpayers United of Illinois.

In this day when Illinois is almost bankrupt from its profligate spending, Clayborne wants to give this irresponsible government even more of the taxpayer’s money to waste. Of course, the out-of-control spending isn;t Illinois’ only problem.

Jim Tobin, President of NTUI, says that the mess Illinois’ pensions are in is also a major culprit and he points out that Clayborne isn’t trying to solve the situation.

“This tax villain, in league with Gov. Pat Quinn, wants to raise the state personal income tax a back-breaking 67 percent and the corporate income tax 33 percent,” Tobin said. “Lavish, gold-plated government pension systems in Illinois are the real reason behind these income-tax hike schemes.”

Tobin’s NTUI sent out flyers in the style of a wanted poster to inform Clayborne’s constituents of the tax hike idea floated by their Senator.

Illinois is already one of the worst business climates in the country and Clayborne wants to burden business with even more taxes. No wonder Indiana is getting many of Illinois’ businesses.

Clayborne’s tax hike plan isn’t intended to solve any of Illinois’ problems and is only meant to fill the pockets of his buddies in state government. Naturally, Clayborne is no stranger to inside dealing meant to benefit himself.

Earlier this month the Chicago Sun-Times discovered in the state hiring database that Senator Clayborne tried to get his sister a job through Governor Blagojevich’s office not long ago. Clayborne had the gov. create a make-work job in the governor’s budget office for her. For some reason the deal was never consummated, however.

Clayborne should be considered far more than simply the “tax villain” for the month of October. He should be considered an enemy to the people.
