TAPROOT, a local Downer’s Grove/Lombard area Republican association, received a visit by the new Illinois GOP Chairman, Pat Brady, at its Saturday, Sept. 18th breakfast meeting. TAPROOT Board Chairman Dave Dierson published this report on his GOPIllinois.com site:
Pat Brady and Pat Hughes speak at TAPROOT breakfast meeting
Spirited questions for Brady focus on SB600 and Rule 11
Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Chairman and National Committeeman Pat Brady and U.S. Senate candidate Pat Hughes spoke at an outstanding TAPOOT breakfast meeting Saturday, September 19, at the Old Country Buffet in Lombard.
Spirited questions for Brady focused on SB600 and Rule 11. Hughes reiterated that he supports SB600 and Rule 11. Sadly, Brady made it clear that he opposes SB600 and that the only thing he will do for the millions of SB600 supporters in Illinois is to promise to give the issue a fair hearing at the 2012 IRP convention. Given that, sadly, everyone can expect that the IRP will continue to promote candidates, elected officials, and party leaders who oppose SB600 and that the IRP will work against candidates, elected officials, and party leaders who support SB600.
Sadly, by its actions, the IRP continues to say to the millions of SB600 supporters in Illinois either drop your support for SB600 or leave the party. Brady’s opposition to SB600 better explains why the IRP State Central Committee, which vehemently opposes SB600, elected Brady as IRP Chairman so promptly.
The meeting’s approximately 50 attendees included Peter Breen, Wally Brown, Carolyn Connell, John Curry, Bob Graham, Gwen Henry, Ginger Hermann, Randy, Hultgren, Doug Ibendahl, Charlie Johnston, Victor LaPorte, Chris Lauzen, Vern McCarthy, Byrd Parmelee, Jack Roeser, Cathy Santos, Brien Sheahan, Bob Shelstrom, Ray and Doreen True, and Jon Zahm.
Matt Murphy is scheduled to speak at TAPROOT’s October 17 breakfast meeting — I will be asking Murphy if he will be bringing his running mate Andy McKenna.
