Indiana Sec of State Links ACORN to Vote Fraud

-By Warner Todd Huston

Secretary of State Todd Rokita has revealed that a preliminary investigation by his office has found that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is guilty of “multiple criminal violations, including possible state and federal racketeering laws,” by their fraudulent voter registration drive in Lake Country, Indiana.

Sec. Rokita has asked requested state authorities prosecute ACORN for their illegal actions in a letter sent to Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter, U.S. Attorney David Capp and Michael Welch, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Indianapolis office.

The Indy Star reports that:

The allegations of knowingly submitting fraudulent applications, a Class D felony, are aimed at the left-leaning activist group, Acorn, which conducted registration drives in several key presidential battleground states. Acorn is being investigated for similar issues in about a dozen other states.

ACORN has defended its actions with the claim that “by law” they are forced to turn in all registration forms whether they are obvious frauds or not. Rotika, however, says this excuse isn’t legitimate. He said in his letter that “complying with the law to submit legitimate applications does not allow Acorn officials to evade the law against knowingly submitting fraudulent applications.”

In his letter, Rokita wrote: “Our preliminary investigation into these 1,438 voter registration applications reveal significant, credible evidence that the organization, its officers, agents and employees, through direct action, conspiracy or inducement:

>> “Violated Indiana election laws with respect to the solicitation, completion and submission of incomplete, forged or fraudulent voter registration applications.

>> “Violated Indiana election law with respect to the submission of multiple voter registration applications for the same person.

>> “Violated Indiana election laws with respect to obstruction of elections and interference with election officials.

>> “Violated Indiana’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations law.

>> “Violated Indiana and federal laws protecting individual rights to register and vote in elections.”

Indiana is only one of dozens of states that ACORN has conducted this fraudulent voter registration campaign. Let’s hope other states follow through with the sort of charges Indiana has initiated.

Further, we should all pressure our representatives in Congress to defund this criminal organization. ACORN receives millions of dollars a year from the Federal treasury.
