John McCain and the GOP
-By Dan Scott
As usual, we have heard far more about the rhetoric of Clinton and Obama than anything being said by the McCain or Huckabee. The MSM news blackout continues on what if anything the GOP is for or against. Nor have we heard anything from the House of Representatives all of whom come up for election every two years or from one third of the Senate that is also up for re-election. It seems the entire MSM attention is on Clinton and Obama as if that’s really all there is for the voters to consider. Sounds like some very long coattails to me.
After a review of McCain’s website and another issues oriented website called On the Issues, I have come to the firm conclusion that maybe the MSM is right to ignore the GOP entirely. They haven’t said anything compelling that hasn’t been said before nor is there any hint of leadership on where he intends to take the country. Yes, they say all the appropriate things about this and that, but leadership and vision is missing. Of course I got my GOP questionnaire asking me if I wanted Clinton as the next president and if I didn’t I needed to send them $80, 120 or $200 to defeat her. The gist of the entire GOP campaign strategy is vote for us if you don’t want Clinton. I don’t know about you but in my opinion, that’s more pathetic than the Democrat’s campaign slogan of “Change.”

To top off this lack of direction by the GOP, I also ended up reading Selwyn Duke’s article, to say the least I was very angry. Selwyn’s article makes me angry, not because it is false or smacks of elitism but because there is a great deal of truth to it. It is infuriating to see the Democrats with their mouthpieces, the MSM manipulate the average person through sloganeering and false choices mixed with “something in it for me” vote buying (image of Clinton with presents under the Xmas Tree). However, what makes my blood boil is the idea that we should concede or write off the average person to the clutches of the manipulating power hungry elites in the hope they weren’t motivated enough to go and vote in any event. What was really said here is we as movement weren’t prepared to put in the effort to educate or inform the average person of the issues or remind them of the values that are important in life because they were so far gone it wasn’t worth the effort. We are in a culture war with the liberals for the heart and soul of this country and to concede even one person is to say they have an unbeatable strategy that will always best any response we can muster. Such a concession means an inevitable victory for the Left and plunging the Republic into a dictatorship of committee run by the Left. This is not just unacceptable, it will lead to same as what is occurring in Venezuela when buyer’s remorse sets in.
The GOP and McCain need to be reminded of the 1994 Contract With America where the common person got the message and understood what needed to be done by voting in those who were willing to carry it out. Was it the common person or the politician who failed in 2006? The Republican Party failed to keep the faith with the Contract, this is why they were turned out in 2006. Are we saying things have progressed to the point this cannot happen again? Is the Conservative movement in such disarray that we aren’t capable of giving direction or making our voice heard?
The MSM has taken large hits on it’s credibility with the public and as such points to the idea that people aren’t as foolish and ill-informed as Selwyn seems to indicate. What McCain and the Republican Party have to do is find their true center, that being the values of the people as it did in 1994. Without values, information and education are useless exercises in self delusion. I would remind those willing to write off the common person that during the Colonial period the common person was far less educated and far less informed of world events than today.
We must draw again from those values otherwise we will be no different than the Democrat Party. What are those values? The Rule of Law applies to everyone both the citizen and the foreigner (illegal alien); Equality under the Law without the abuse of privilege based judgments of victimization or “Protected Class”; Personal Responsibility for your own education, family circumstance, health and finances; An Assertive Defense against our enemies whether foreign or domestic (5th column); The right of the public to freely express their views without being called Racists, Homophobes, Chauvinists, etc. even if their opinion is contrary to what’s PC or for that matter taken to Court with frivolous lawsuits or repressive hate speech laws; The right of parenthood without the micromanagement of government or schools usurping power; The right to the use of one’s property and assets without confiscation (excessive taxation) by or the micromanagement (social programs) of government; The right to bear arms without the continual excuses of government to undermine that right; The outlawing of Socialism as a corrupt and despotic system of embezzlement by government; and The three strike rule on judges (3 overturned decisions requires removal on the grounds of incompetence). In short, the ideas expressed by the Bill of Rights as understood without lawyers and judges attempting to undermine what we have held in common for over 200+ years by the tyranny of Change, or as I would called it “reverse Stare decisis” where what has been understood and practiced since the foundation of the Republic is overthrown by judicial fiat under the guise of the “living document” without the People’s express permission through their elected Representatives. The “living document” euphemism is nothing more than the unconstitutional dictatorial overthrow of Self Governance by Majority Rule where judges and not the People’s Representatives make the laws because certain groups can’t get enough people to agree with them (the Tyranny of the Minority). It is time for Congress to pass the plain spoken Law that judges are forbidden to make laws by judicial rulings but only can advise the Congress of a potential inconsistency. This will once and for all de-politicize and end the battle over the Supreme Court justices and in the process protect the public against unwanted judicial legislative interference. Such vision will take leadership, does the GOP or McCain have such leadership? It remains to be seen.
While it may be true the foolish and naïve are easily led astray by power seeking elites, but I ask you, whose fault is it that failed to effectively oppose the propaganda and misinformation campaign of both the Democrat Party and MSM???? Are we now to blame the common person by absolving ourselves? I think not. The responsibility belongs to us who know better. There is a difference between a victim and a survivor. A victim doesn’t take responsibility for the outcome, a survivor does. If we will not take responsibility for the outcome, then who will? The MSM news blackout notwithstanding, whose responsibility is it to communicate to the public, the GOP and McCain? I challenge every conservative to communicate clearly to the GOP and McCain that their lack of vision and leadership will be the cause of a Democrat victory in November 2008 as it was in 2006. Will the GOP message to America be vote for us because we are not Democrat or will it be vote for us because we actually stand for something that’s important to you?
