At the beginning of September, Channel 5 News revealed a shocking story in Roma, Texas. As their cameras chronicled, each morning dozens of Mexican kids are crossing the border from Mexico into the Texas border town of Roma to attend an American school, free of charge. You read that correctly. American tax money is funding the education of kids who actually live IN Mexico and who are illegally crossing the border every single day to attend U.S. schools. I have waited a suitable period of time to bring this story up, hoping that the national news sources will pick up on this absurd violation of our National sovereignty and misuse of our tax money… yet not a peep has been heard to my knowledge.
It is estimated that $4 million has been spent on Mexican kids just in Roma, Texas, alone. And no one really even knows how much has been thrown down the rat hole in other Texas border towns, not to mentions similar towns in other border states.
News Channel 5 reported on the 6th of September that these Mexican kids are getting a free education from US taxpayers because the county schools do not have very stringent residency requirements. (See video here)
Even more ridiculously, school administrators report that they aren’t even allowed to ask if a student is a U.S. citizen before admitting them to class.
The report also reveals that no one in the school system is even bothering to keep track of how many schools are giving a free education to children whose parents are not U.S. taxpayers.

Taxpayer Money Used to Educate Mexican Nationals — Over four million spent in Roma alone
ROMA – An estimated 650 kids from Mexico are going to public school in Roma.
They come to America for a better education.
The annual cost of an education is nearly $7,000 a student, which works out to $4,500,000 spent on Mexican students of your tax dollars spent. That’s in Roma alone.
The truth is, no one knows the actual money being spent, because no one is actually keeping track.
The reason? Parents only have to prove U.S. residency once. After that, the student is set until they graduate.
Proving residency is as simple as providing a Roma address.
School administrators say they can’t ask if a student is a legal U.S. citizen.
Administrators say American students don’t “do without” because of students from Mexico. They tell us the district gets state and federal funding for every student, even those from across the border.
Is this not outrageous? I certainly find it so.
Then, why have the national news services all ignored this story?
But, we really do know why this isn’t being stopped by the county and state school districts, don’t we? It’s because Federal and state monies are dolled out to our schools by the amount of children counted filing seats in the schools. That being the case, there is no way they will do the right thing and refuse these kids. After all, the more kids in their schools, the more money the schools receive for their budget.

After reading this article you have done i felt the need to drop by and leave a comment. I am ana eighth grader in Roma Middle school who loves and admires her Mexican roots. I feel that you are both wrong and right in this situation. Yes it is unfair that we as citizens of Roma have to pay when people that come from Mexico dont but on the contrary…. Parents do send kids over her ebecause they want to be and achieve to be someone in life. The major reason they can’t live here is because they don’t have the money for it and they want their kids to surpass them. So obviously they send their kids here to Roma because the education is way better. There is more organizations, a better enviroment, and the oppurtunity of a lifetime that is to learn English which is a major thing when it comes getting a job later on nowadays. So I hope you understand my view and the need to be fair to my people.

Thanks so much for your kind message (and ignore “Bubba” up there, he’s an idiot). Your letter points out the heartache that parents have when they so much want their children to do better in life. I have kids myself and understand the feeling.
Now, I really don’t blame the Mexican parents or the Mexican kids completely for violating our laws, our border and our sovereignty by sending their children across our borders to our schools. I am not blaming the parents and kids nearly as much as the governments that permit this illegal action. Still, these parents KNOW full well that they are breaking the law. So, they are not without blame. It displays an utter lack of morality to break the laws so badly.
The chief problem here, of course, is the Mexican government for being a corrupt one that doesn’t care about its citizens and the US government for allowing its laws to be so blatantly broken.
What it comes down to is that, while I feel sad that Mexican kids might not have the same opportunities as American kids, I am NOT responsible for those people. I AM responsible for my fellow Americans to the extent that we as a society assure what WE have, though. In the final analysis, I cannot care about Mexican kids over the welfare of my own people.
It would be the best thing if ALL children had equal opportunities in this world. But that is impossible and I am NOT willing to destroy our own opportunities just because the Mexicans have fewer.
So, I stand against allowing even one single foreigner to illegally cross our borders, steal our money, our jobs, our education, our medical care, and then to be allowed to go right back to the third world crap hole they are from with no problems.
These Mexicans duty is to make their OWN government into a model of the US and make their own lives better THERE, not to come here like thieves. It isn’t our job to give them things for free.
